- Title Ghostly Vision (Visión fantasmal)
- Artist Francisco Goya (Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes; Spanish, Fuendetodos 1746 - Bordeaux 1828)
- Year of creation c. 1801 (some sources propose 1797-1800; dated by art historian Arturo Ansón Navarro, the expert on 18th-century painting who attributed and identified the work in April 2016 and presented it publicly on 8 October 2018. According to Ansón, Goya painted it alla prima — in a single rapid session without major corrections — during a period of creative fullness coinciding with his pre-Romantic style of the early 19th century, the same years in which he explored witchcraft, catastrophes, and the supernatural with enormous freedom. The work was likely originally given by Goya to his Aragonese friend Juan Martín de Goicoechea y Galarza, a businessman close to the art world, and passed by inheritance until it reached the Counts of Gabarda. The painting depicts an enormous ghostly figure with an indefinite body, dark eyes and nose, and a pair of pointed horns, draped in a cloak fading into darkness)
- Technique/Medium Oil on canvas
- Original dimensions 26 x 17 cm
- Collection/Museum Museo de Zaragoza (on long-term deposit since 2018 from an anonymous Aragonese family; previously in the collection of the Counts of Gabarda at their palace on Plaza del Justicia in Zaragoza, where it was photographed in 1928 by Juan Mora Insa for the centenary issue of the SIPA magazine Aragón before disappearing for ninety years)
